Overview
The new student accommodation is named Yukeembruk (phonetic pronunciation 'yu-kum-bruuk') and the adjoining laneway, Maliyan Lane. These names were gifted following consultation with Ngambri/Ngurmal (Walgalu), Wallaballooa (Ngunnawal), Wiradyuri (Erambie) custodian, Paul Girrawah House, and Professor Aunty Anne Martin, Director of the ANU Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre.
Yukeembruk consists of over 700 beds with rooms that have shared bathroom facilities or ensuite rooms and self-catered masterchef style kitchens. The four residential buildings are built around a large common amphitheatre, creating a village community with views of Sullivan's Creek, Black Mountain and the lake.
Yibaay-maliyan Yukeembruk (Eaglehawk and Crow) are the two main totems and totemic class system of the Canberra (Ngambri) region. The members of the Walgalu (Ngambri/Ngurmal) and Ngarigu (Currawang/Moolinggoolah) nations belongs within the nation to one of two classes or sections, which were inherited through the mother. The story behind these gifted names will be celebrated in the identity of the new residence.
Yukeembruk Village now offers a daily shuttle bus service to Kambri at ANU, as well as frequent trips to the city center. This service is included in the costs for all Yukeembruk residents.

Accessible bathroom facilities are available for those with mobility aides, including wheelchairs. Kitchens are set up to have quieter spaces available as needed. YBK is a distance of 900 metres from Kambri, with a designated disabled parking space.
